Optimization of Machining Parameters in EDM process by using Robust Design

In this study, an experiment is conducted to optimize the machining parameters of the Electric Discharge Machining on EN 31 tool steel with copper as an electrode considering the performance characteristics using the Taguchi method. Performance characteristics Material Removal Rate has been chosen to evaluate the machining effects. Parameters selected in this study are Pulse on time, Pulse off time and peak current. Taguchi method is used to plan the experimental design L9 orthogonal array and to analyse the effect of each variable. The analysis of results showed that MRR is mostly influenced by the peak current.
